Contrary to popular belief, not all fashion week action happens in Paris, Milan, New York and London. Fashion week has become a global affair, and rightfully so. The industry, which brings brands, buyers, and consumers together twice a year, has broadened over the last two decades. And Copenhagen has brought us something we've been desperately lacking: affordable, fun and experimental fashion fronted by our Scandi faves Ganni, Baum Und Pferdgarten and Cecilie Bahnsen.
This season, the SS21 shows are looking a little different - the Danish capital was the first to put on its Spring/Summer 2021 Fashion Week with a smaller, more local crowd showing up to witness the first major Fashion Week since COVID.
For three sunny days last week, the city’s street-stylers put on a colourful display of new season trends from preppy basics, pops of pink and new colour blocking combos. Ganni'sgraphic florals were everywhere, and when it comes to this universal warm-weather print - the only way to go is bold.
Living in the UK, we have to put up with our fair share of indecisive summer weather - one minute we're melting our way through a heatwave and the next we're dodging Storm Ellen.
If you were thinking it's time to retire your floaty florals for something more heavy-duty (aka, an anorak) think again. This isn't the time for ditsy, cottage-core prairie printshowever – bold florals are the perfect antidote to balmy, drizzly summer days. These psychedelic florals in groovy cuts (think boho maxi dresses, ruffled midi skirts and puff-sleeved minis) are throwing it back to the '70s inspired by larger-than-life abstract florals seen at Christopher Kane or Richard Quinn, where oversized floral maxis were among our favourite get-ups for Spring/Summer 2020.
Take notes from street style royalty and be sure to keep your dress hemlines long for strappy styles and layer up with oversized tailoring in clashing prints. Balance out a mini with long sleeves and team with chunky ankle boots or cut-off wellies - the rubber ankle boots seen on the Bottega Veneta AW20 catwalk are on our wishlist.
Style separates with denim or stiff linens, or if you're feeling brave, co-ordinate with matching leggings or clashing checks, polka dots or stripes.
Feeling convinced? Here are 23 of our favourite bold florals buys - happy shopping...
