If you’re the proud owner of DD+ boobs – which happens to be the average UK size – you’ll know that finding the best swimwear for big busts that actually fit amounts to a Herculean task. Most brands don't cater to fuller bust cup sizes bigger than a D, and many now sell bikinis as a set – something which proves fairly unhelpful if you're different sizes on top and bottom, as many are.

That's why, as someone with an H-cup who often struggles to find bikini tops, I decided to investigate what's actually out there. Thankfully, I discovered a wealth of brands that are entirely invested in selling high-quality swimwear for big boobs.

How do you find supportive swimwear for big boobs?

I've always gravitated towards brands like Freya and Bravissimo, both of which are renowned for catering to bigger bust sizes. Recently, however, I've realised that there are other brands giving great swimwear – you just have to know where to find it. That's where I come in. For example, I recently found a fab bikini which fitted perfectly and was – wait for it – from Abercrombie and Fitch, a place I hadn't thought to visit since I was a teenager. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see high street brands - even the ones you thought would never change - evolving to accommodate more sizes and shapes.

I also really like a brand called Ivory Rose, stocked at ASOS and tend to find a lot of affordable bikinis and one pieces there. The only snag is that, due to the fact the fit is great and it's not really expensive, pieces tend to sell out really quickly.

So, from swimsuits to plunging bikinis, below you will find a selection of my favourite styles and swimwear brands, where there's something for everyone. Plus, I've included some handy tips and honed in on a few design features, so you can feel confident about the fit, even before you've purchased it. Shop: The Best Swimwear For Bigger Boobs

I was so surprised to find a bikini which fitted perfectly at Abercrombie (I went for an XL). This is probably why much of the brand's swimwear has already sold out, so the red bikini I enjoyed so much is sadly no longer available. I've also bought this top, however, which I'm planning to mix-and-match with bottoms I already own. I found that this is really supportive and gave a really nice shape, too.

Hannah Banks-Walker, Grazia's head of fashion commerce, tried this last summer and hasn't looked back. 'My bra size is usually a DD and I have found it tricky to find really flattering swimwear in the past. This one piece, however, has a built-in bra shelf, so feels extra supportive. It also has a really flattering cut – you can remove the belt if you want to – and generally made me feel really confident. I'd recommend measuring yourself according to the brand's size chart to make sure you really get your best fit.'

Available in pink and navy, this top offers brilliant support for sizes 32D-38E. It has supportive straps but they're not overly wide, so felt more flattering than some of the bikinis I've tried with super-wide straps. If you want to buy the set, you can choose classic bikini briefs or the high waisted style for extra coverage.

These high waisted briefs are super flattering and feel really supportive, much like the matching top.

Whistles X The Longing, Wave-Print Open-Back SwimsuitWhistles

Lindsay Holland's collaboration with high street hero Whistles features surf-friendly swimwear in sizes 4-20. If you want a one-piece that still wows, look no further than this wave-print number. I was dubious about the fit before I tried it on, as I often find open back swimsuits lack the support I need. This fit was perfect, however, and made me feel really confident. I'd suggest sizing up to ensure a really great fit.

Among the best swimwear for big boobs has got to be SKIMS, which is legendary for being as size inclusive as it is statement-making. This Scoop-Neck One Piece is very Baywatch - and comes in XXS-4X. If you haven't shopped the brand before and don't know which to take, refer to its size guide which breaks down each by measurement for ease. I wore this on a water slide and still felt fully supported and confident – it's one of the best swimsuits I've tried, which is probably why it sells out very quickly. If you're fast, you can still get your hands on this one while it's half price in the sale.

Bravissimo, Bondi Bikini TopBravissimo
Price: £29 (was £42)

Bravissimo's plunge bikini top is perfect for big boobs, thanks to under-wiring, lightly padded cups and the fact that you can tie the additional strap how you like. Available in cup sizes DD-J, its burnished fabric really is fitting for golden hour. This was one of five bikinis I took on holiday last year and I ended up wearing it every day, it was super comfortable and made me feel super sexy. It also comes with a choice of high or low waisted briefs to match.

TONA, founded by style director Tona Stell, has developed something of a cult following since launching in 2021. Its sustainable bikinis are specifically designed for larger cup sizes, ranging from 32DD to 38G, with under-wiring, a double lining and adjustable straps for maximum support. This is, without doubt, one of my favourite brands for swimwear. I've worn this particular bikini countless times and won't be parting with it any time soon.

Boux Avenue has a great selection of swimwear that goes beyond a DD. In fact, they go all the way up to a 38G. Its 'Ibiza' design features scrunch detailing and a tie in the middle, and it's available in three different colours, each equally as flattering; plum, black and khaki. I would say this is an ideal bikini for sunbathing but, if you're planning to be a bit more active, you may want something with slightly more coverage.

How do I choose swimwear for my body type?

You want your swimwear to highlight your best features and make you feel great - right? The key is to know your body and what works best with your shape. If you have a bigger bust, there are plenty of swimsuits and bikinis that have features like built-in bras and adjustable straps. Darker colours, prints and one-pieces will always be the most flattering. Those with a smaller bust might prefer to elongate their figure with vertical stripes, high-cut legs and plunging necklines.

Individuals with a hourglass shape might gravitate towards swimwear that highlights your waist with more classic cuts like high-waisted bottoms and halter necks.

For a more pear-shaped person, you're going to want all the embellishments. Think ruffles and bold prints, and match them with a sleeker pair of bottoms.

Anyone with an apple shape can create a balanced silhouette by simply pairing underwire tops with high-waisted bottoms, or with anything with ruching.
