Striped jumpers are an autumn fashion no brainer. Inspired by the French navy's striped Breton shirts, the nautical-style knits have remained a decidedly chic capsule wardrobe item among the fashion set, from street stylers all the way to the A-List - as well as every Paris-based fashion influencer I follow.
When it comes to celebs, Kate Middleton is no stranger to the French-girl knitwear trend, having been spotted wearing the now sold out Erdem striped cashmere sweater time and time again, most recently paired with white sailor shorts and her most-worn Superga canvas shoes, £33. Elsewhere, Alexa Chung strayed from the usual white and navy with bold red stripes in her September 2024 Barbour edit, with the Dominic Striped Crew Neck Jumper, £259.
For AW24, we've seen plenty of iterations of the humble striped jumper, from high street to luxury, jumpers to cardigans. If you're looking to splurge, consider Toteme's coveted Striped Turtleneck Jumper or Khaite's Diletta Striped Jumper, crafted from cashmere and wool, to keep off the crisp winter chill. If, however, you'd rather stick to a realistic new-year-new-me budget, the high street offers an abundance of affordable versions of the striped jumper trend, many to which the fashion crowd have already flocked.

This COS cardigan is a way of styling the Breton stripe that we're sure chic French women would agree with. The style features a cosy merino wool knit, as well as V-neckline, front pockets and wide ribbed hem. Style underneath a borg gilet and with a pair of trusty denim jeans.
Arket's Cotton Wool Jumper, £70 for example, is a seriously chic high street option, as well as M&S' Cloud-Yarn Striped Crew Neck Jumper, which features metallic accents amongst contrasting stripes. Our favourite, however, has to be the COS Striped Merino Wool V-Neck Cardigan, £85 - an incredibly cosy, season-appropriate striped cardigan that's knitted from merino wool, with front patch pockets and ribbed hem. Alexa Chung's Barbour edit is the gift that keeps on giving, and this crew neck jumper is the prime example. Made with high quality lambswool, this crew neckline, ribbed trim sweatshirt will pair well with wide leg or barrel jeans (we adore this pair from Abercrombie and Fitch) and some weather appropriate leather boots.
