You might have resigned yourself to a life in flats, but if that's the case, prepare yourself: platform shoes are back. Throughout numerous fashion months over the years, the pumped-up platform has made its presence known both on and off the catwalk.
Tracee Ellis Ross is a fan of Versace's, the platform that started the trend for serious elevation back in February 2021. For AW21, almost every model wore a stacked satin pair in hot pink, scarlet, yellow or black, and since then they've snowballed in popularity. (On this season's catwalk, meanwhile, all manner of platforms were on display, from the punky lace-ups on Lila Grace Moss Hack, to the pointed stiletto pumps on Bella Hadid).
At Valentino, every single front row face arrived in platforms - including Zendaya, Olivia Culpo and Tina Kunakey - and the sky-high shoe was worn with almost every look on the catwalk.
The street style set has been test running ever-so-slightly more wearable versions. In Paris, one woman wore a pair of chunky platform sandals - more sturdy, less vertiginous - with slim cigarette pants and black socks (chic). Hailey Bieber, wearing the most knock-out dress imaginable (vintage Gucci), strode out of her hotel wearing the famously stacked platform boots from Naked Wolfe.
And while many have been wearing them with miniskirts (veryClueless), you could always style yours with something slightly more pared-back such as ankle-cropped jeans and an oversized shirt. The only thing you need now? A Compeed subscription.
