When you delve into the world of TikTok, you never know what you're going to find. It could be the latest viral beauty hack or a dinner idea (we all remember that baked feta pasta). If you've ever fallen down a 'haul' rabbit hole, however, you might not think it has much to do with mindful shopping habits. According to the Lyst 2021 Conscious Fashion Report, that's where you'd be wrong because #deadstock has a whopping 9.5 million views on TikTok.

So, what is deadstock clothing? If you're unsure, a quick explanation is unwanted/unused or surplus (over-produced) materials or fabrics that will most likely end up in landfill. Some fashion brands are now saving these by making them into fresh new pieces to be loved for longer. Take Kitri, for example, the brand which is loved for its dreamy dresses (and jumpers, and trousers, and...you get the picture) has made two of its best-selling dress styles into new iterations by reusing some of their own leftover materials from previous collections.

Next up, London-based brand Aligne. The new(ish) sustainable brand has just dropped an edit of three limited-edition (because they're made from end-of-line materials) coats. Each style is also lined with Liberty London deadstock printed fabric. And we can confirm each coat is a seasonal winner.

The new demand for upcycled, recycled, repurposed and reworked items (Lyst has seen a 117% spike year-on-year), is one to take note of. With so many small, sustainable and even high street brands - Weekday had a deadstock collection earlier this year - realising that cast-offs can be someone's else new dream threads, we've rounded up where to buy the best deadstock clothing.
