I Can’t Stop Thinking About This Perfect Zendaya Look, Which Is An Easy Outfit Formula For Summer

I'm not ashamed to admit that there are certain celebrity looks which lodge themselves in my brain in such a way that often, when I'm completing a mundane task or rifling through my own wardrobe, they resurface in my mind and allow me to ruminate on the unbridled joy of a really great outfit. This week, another example was added to my subconscious, this time courtesy of Zendaya.

While out and about in Paris, where she was attending various events for the 2024 Olympics, Zendaya wore a simple white halter top, green asymmetric skirt, a pair of ballet pumps from The Row and the handbag from which she cannot be parted: Louis Vuitton's Diane bag. It's a seemingly low-maintenance outfit but one which just feels so right for summer. It doesn't feel like it's trying too hard, it's not overly fussy, nor is it too self-consciously 'fashion'. It's simple, chic and – crucially, when we're all battling humidity – weather-appropriate.

In her inimitable way, Zendaya has managed to combine some of 2024's most in-demand items to concoct a truly perfect outfit. The popularity of ballet pumps shows no sign of waning, while this season does also appear to belong to the skirt. You need only look to the spring/summer collections to recognise that designers put the skirt back in the spotlight this season and, while there was everything from minis to floor-sweepers, the over-arching message was that the bolder your skirt, the better.

There was Erdem's velvet floral midi, Chloé's boho revival in the form of flowing white Broderie Anglaise skirts, Loewe's ruffled silk minis, Tove's feather-trimmed maxi and Marni's extra-long suede skirt. And on almost all of these catwalks, the skirt was the main event, with tops kept simple. Clearly, Zendaya was paying attention.

Luckily, unlike some of the more outlandish street style looks, this combination couldn't be easier to recreate. The only difficulty comes in finding the right skirt for you but, given fashion's proclivity for statement skirts of all kinds right now, you're certainly not lacking in choice.

Whatever your August plans, whether you're staying put, enjoying a staycation or going further afield, this outfit will be the wardrobe saviour you didn't know you needed. Just remember, white vest/tee+bold skirt+ballet flats. That's all you need.
