Kate Middleton Is The Latest Celebrity To Take On The Vanilla Girl Trend

It's the trend sweeping TikTok - but it's not what you think it is.

If someone calls you a 'vanilla girl', it's not an insult aimed at your boring personality (well, hopefully not), but confirmation that you'll absolutely nailing it in the aesthetic stakes. Vanilla girl, in case we lost you at 'aesthetic', is the fashion and beauty trend that's taking off on TikTok. Actually, make that taken off - the hashtag already has a solid 650 million views.

It's about wearing clothes in a sumptuous colour palette that doesn't really stray from vanilla - think clotted cream, butter, Baileys, all the good stuff - and it's already got quite the celebrity following. Rita Ora stepped out in a velour tracksuit - very Y2K - in the perfect shade of peach earlier this week.

Just today, Kate Middleton wore a sweater dress from Victoria Beckham, beige with a slightly flared skirt and sadly sold out, that is textbook vanilla girl.

Last year, Pamela Anderson turned heads for all the right reasons when she sat front row at Jacquemus. Wearing a deliciously feathered dress the colour of double cream - avec a similarly fluffy hat - it proved, definitively, that there's nothing boring about being a vanilla girl.

The trend also swept the board at this year's Critics' Choice Awards. As well as Niecy Nash-Betts, who wore the most incredible gown by Jason Wu, Elle Fanning and Anya Taylor-Joy, who looked like she was wearing an ice cream cone, also championed the blandest flavour on the menu (although there was nothing bland about the results).

And finally to Paris Couture Week. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, arriving at Valentino, wore taupe tailoring (again with a feathery flourish at the cuffs) that signalled that we should definitely expect to see more from the vanilla girl trend during the fashion month circuit.
