Gigi Hadid brought her undeniable star power to London Fashion Week last night, closing proceedings with a rock ‘n’ roll bang at the Tommy Now show. Marking her third collaboration with American designer Tommy Hilfiger after showing previously in New York and LA, the extravaganza featured not just her TommyxGigi collection, but also the designer’s eponymous brand, plus his Hilfiger and Hilfiger Edition diffusion lines, as well as a triumvirate of Hadid siblings, Gigi, Bella and Anwar, who followed each other onto the catwalk. Suffice to say, it was a grand affair, unlike any other event on the Big Smoke’s calendar.
Taking place at Camden’s iconic Roundhouse, the show was dubbed a ‘rock circus’, with guests ushered into the 1700-capacity venue via a backstage entrance appropriately decked out with amps and bars stocked with red cups. Acrobats and other circus performers emerged from the rafters after the finale walk, and chart-topping DJs the Chainsmokers took to the decks while A-listers like Lottie Moss, Poppy Delevingne and Rafferty Law celebrated the end of a hectic five days in the capital.

Inspired by ‘90s heritage – including three of the biggest trends of the period, grunge, skater and preppy – the collection featured tartan slip dresses, silk bombers, ripped jeans and mini-leather backpacks fit for Cher Horowitz. Gigi opened the show in a maroon tartan wool coat, black crop jumper and denim shorts, swiftly followed by sister Bella, who was chanelling her more gothic vibe in a black hoody emblazoned with the all-seeing eye. Brother Anwar – the newest Hadid to model – wasn’t far behind, wearing a classic Tommy rugby shirt, a black parka with brown fur collar and fingerless red-and-black gloves. Other notable models in the line-up included Cindy Crawford’s son Presley Gerber, Georgia May Jagger, Hailey Baldwin, Joan Smalls and Jourdan Dunn, who elicited one of the loudest cheers from fans, as if they were at an actual rock show.
Because unlike your usual fashion show, there were fans in the audience of the packed-out venue, many of whom had queued for hours to be there. Hilfiger was wise to capitalise on Hadid’s 37.5 million-strong following on Instagram, offering them the chance to watch their idol walk – and more importantly, buy her clothes. Everything in the collection was available to buy immediately – even before the show began – a genius move on the part of Hilfiger, whose continued moving with the times has made him one of the most relevant designers of his generation.
