Back in July, there was a moment when we were a little worried about Tom Hiddleston. Between the widespread mockery of that ‘I Heart T. S.’ T-shirt (sorry, vest) and a slew of headlines shouting about his dwindling chances of playing James Bond, the actor seemed far from the suave Night Manager star of old.
It seems, though, that Tom has managed to pull off the near impossible and rise from the ashes of Hiddleswift in style, managing a. to avoid attempting a social media takedown of his ex (a la Calvin Harris); b. to land a high profile fashion campaign with the undisputed label of the moment, Gucci; and c. to do so in the company of some beautiful afghan hounds. Well played, Hiddleston, well played.
In his first major fashion gig to date, Hiddleston looks sharp in tailoring from Alessandro Michele’s Cruise ready-to-wear 2017 line, modelling everything from a burgundy three-piece suit to a jazzily patterned jacket and – every fashion editor’s favourite – a pair of the brand’s fur-lined backless loafers. And did we mention the afghan hounds?
Photographer Glen Luchford shot the actor at the Dawnridge Estate in Los Angeles. Owned by the late artist Tony Duquette, this historic mansion is filled with antiques, heirlooms, old portraits and curiosities – perfectly in keeping with Michele’s opulently maximalist aesthetic.
