When it comes to the red carpet, Michaela Coel has a unique formula: wearing looks that are either made by herself or by her mum. But for tonight's BAFTA TV Awards, the actor-writer-director, who is nominated for her performance in I May Destroy You, went for a different strategy, choosing to support a label that has already won fans in Rihanna, Naomi Campbell and A$AP Rocky: Maximilian.

Coel wore a custom-made gown by the designer, Maximilian Davis, where the drama was dialled up as she spun around with a pair of cut-outs that swooped around the shoulder blades and an elegant train. Already industry favourite after showing for two seasons with talent incubator, Fashion East, Davis has a reputation for super-sexy clothes that tell a story. Inspired by family photographs and passed-down memories from his grandmother's upbringing in Trinidad, as well as wanting 'to show people of colour in a regal way', his clothes are an exploration of Black elegance.

Coel accessorised the gown, which also came with a keyhole-shaped cut-out that played peekaboo down the front, with a chunky chain-link necklace and a constellation of gold rings. And while we hate to play favourites, she's got best dressed in the bag in our book.
