After Chanel's Cuban extravaganza earlier this month comes Louis Vuitton's very own Cruise spectacular. Taking place in Rio de Janiero, against the backdrop of the city's Guanabara Bay, it was the perfect showcase for a colourful, sporty take on Nicholas Ghesquiere's futuristic aesthetic. Here's your fashionable cheat sheet...
It took place at the Mac de Niteroi
That curved, futuristic structure that's suddenly cropped up on your Instagram feed? It's the Niteroi Museum of Contemporary Art, and it's one of Rio's best-known landmarks. Opened in 1996, LV Cruise marks the first time the venue has hosted a fashion show.
The collection was inspired by car racing
The day before the main event, the fashion house teased this collage of 'go faster' racing-inspired patterns and motifs, all in a bright, beachy Rio colour palette. Major Grand Prix vibes, in the most stylish way possible.
Everyone sat on coloured boxes
Arranged in a single row that snaked around the curves of the Mac de Niteroi, each crate vibrantly colourful crate differed in design.
Models carried '80s-style boomboxes
Yes, really. Tongue firmly in cheek, the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk was re-imagined as an aesthetically perfect ghetto blaster.
Fashion's name game is still going strong
The evidence? These 'Vuitton' branded bags, complete with a hint of LV monogramming and echoes of a Grand Prix chequered flag (as snapped by our fashion diretor, Rebecca Lowthorpe).
The skinny scarf is having a moment
Fringed, metallic, patterned, lurex or in simple block colours, the skinny scarf made countless appearances on the runway.
Futuristic sports-luxe was the order of the day
Look closely enough at Ghesquiere's latest creations and you'll see futbol inspired prints, space-age flip flops (a nod to Rio's beach culture?) and unexpected ruffles and cut-outs.
The models of the moment made an appearance
The show was framed by two of the industry's most in-demand fresh faces: opened by Mica Arganaraz, and closed by red-headed 18-year-old Natalie Westling.
Alicia Vikander looked flawless on the front row
The Oscar winner and LV muse teamed a boho, hankerchief-hemmed summer dress with a pair of clompy, hi-shine boots from the brand (similar to those she wore to the Met Gala earlier this month...)
She was joined by the rest of Ghesquiere's Vuitton family
Alessandra Ambrosio, campaign star Jaden Smith, Korean actress Doona Bae and screen legend Catherine Deneueve all made an appearance. And can we talk about Zendaya's stunning front row look? The sartorially fearless former Disney Channeller is fast becoming fashion royalty.
There's plenty more to get excited about this Cruise season
Especially for us Brits - next week sees Dior returning to Oxfordshire landmark Blenheim Palace, while later in the season Gucci will stage the first ever fashion show at Westminster Abbey.
