As the cohort of British Prime Ministers - including John Major, Gordon Brown and Theresa May - arrived at Westminster Abbey, one had clearly been taking style notes from the royal family. Liz Truss arrived wearing a burnt orange dress with a belted waist that, on second glance, looked somewhat familiar to fans of Kate Middleton.

It was, in fact, exactly the same dress that she wore back in October 2022. Puff-sleeved and pleated, the frock was a high street hit from Karen Millen, which at the time was available for £219, and, with its sunny shade of yellow, cheered up the onlookers outside the Royal Surrey Hospital.

By choosing a favourite high street label of Kate Middleton's - the woman who is known to push product like no one else in the royal family, the so-called 'Kate effect' - Liz was clearly aligning herself with the power fashion players on coronation day. (Her version of the dress is now on sale for £153.30.) Smart move.
