There was no red carpet on which to make a statement but, for many stars 'attending' last night's Digital Emmy Awards, that didn't stop them from using fashion to send a powerful message.
Take Sandra Oh, for example. The Killing Eve star decided to embrace the casual dress code in black L'Agence trousers and trainers, albeit Roger Vivier trainers. She also had a pair of white Christian Louboutin heels nearby but it was really her bomber jacket that stole the show.
Designed by LA-based brand KORELIMITED, the jacket was designed especially for Oh when she and Elizabeth Saltzman, her stylist, reached out to the brand. 'After George Floyd’s death and the protests that followed, I felt that as an Asian-American, a Korean-American person, I wanted to express my support for the Black community in a way that felt personal to my community,' Oh toldVogue.
The jacket says 'Black Lives Are Precious' in Korean, which is delicately embroidered onto the bomber. Not only did this pay tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement, Oh also wanted to make sure she was representing her Korean heritage in the best possible way. 'The characters have to be read top to bottom, right to left, [a traditional way of writing Korean script] and there are dashes, or taegukgi, lifted from the Korean flag, which represent celestial bodies and the natural elements and all of that good stuff. And then on the right there’s a mugunghwa [hibiscus], the national flower of Korea,' she said to Vogue.
KORELIMITED has produced more of the reversible jackets which are being sold on the brand's website for around £292. A portion of the proceeds will go to Campaign Zero, a non-profit organization aimed to examine policing practices and end police violence; and Black Girls Code, an organization aimed to empower girls of color for their futures in STEM fields by exposing them to computer science and technology. There are also matching face masks available for £19.
Regina King and Uzo Aduba also used the opportunity to voice their support for the campaign to achieve justice for Breonna Taylor, who was murdered in her own home by police in Louisville.
Both actors wore T-shirts bearing her name or her image, which they wore as they accepted their respective Emmy Awards. King also urged everyone to vote, which was echoed indirectly by Rachel Brosnahan's outfit of pyjamas, which she wore to 'attend' the Emmys from home and which are due to be auctioned at Chic-relief.com in order to support Michelle Obama's organisation When We All Vote in order to put together a campaign that raises money to fund promotion for voting in the upcoming 2020 election.
And Brosnahan isn't the only one donating her Emmys look, either. Kerry Washington, Issa Rae, Mahershala Ali, Tracee Ellis Ross, Mark Ruffalo, Uzo Aduba and Samira Wiley are also providing designer looks on which you can bid from 23 September- 2 October.
The auction is the result of a partnership between When We All Vote and Red Carpet Advocacy, an organisation established to advocate for various causes, raising money and awareness through various campaigns.

Jameela Jamil in her PJs
Jameela Jamil did what we all hope the stars would do and actually wore her PJs to (virtually) attend the ceremony. And this is her day, not mine.'

Billy Porter in Ashi Studio
There's no way Billy Porter was going to let a pandemic get in the way of his red carpet drama. He may have been posing in his garden instead, but his custom-made Ashi Studio look made no less of an impact. It consisted of a tailored jacket with draped detail and flared trousers, which he wore with Rick Owens shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and an ear cuff by Alan Crocetti.
