Following a few months of teasing imagery via Instagram, last week Emily Ratajkowski finally revealed the first designs for her debut swimwear line,Inamorataswim. The retro yet Instagrammable designs went down a storm but it seems the model has already found herself in a spot of trouble when it comes to the originality of her creations.
Swimwear designer Lisa Marie Fernandez has sent Ratajkowski a cease-and-desist letter accusing her of copying two of her designs, Business of FashionBusiness of Fashionreported.
The designs in question include Inamorata’s ‘Vulcan’ bikini top, an off-the-shoulder design, and the ‘Cardiff’ swimsuit, a cut-out costume with bow detailing.
Lisa Marie Fernandez - loved by the likes of Poppy Delevingne, Leandra Medine and Pandora Sykes for her vintage inspired swimwear and floaty holiday dresses - has claimed that Ratajkowski has copied two of her designs from three years ago.
Although in the US there is no law in place when it comes to protecting copyright of physical items because Inamorata also sells in Europe and Australia, Ratajkowski might be in trouble. Back in 2015 Fernandez registered the designs in questions under EU law and this grants her the monopoly to supply, import, export or deal products incorporating the designs until 2020. Ratajkowski and her company now have until the 22nd November to answer the letter before Fernandez will carry out legal proceedings.
