Ever since the inauguaration of Donald Trump on 20th January 2017, the fashion world has become a talking point for politics.
Last season's street style stars took the opportunity to don slogan-emblazoned tees shaming the current government while many designers used the catwalk as a platform for free speech.
But Italian brand Dolce and Gabbana has remained schtum. The label famously dresses First Lady Melania Trump, while other brands were quick to refuse as a consequence to her husband's political stance and controversial ideologies.
But one of D&G's models hit the headlines after protesting while walking the catwalk. Raury, a rapper who has collaborated with the likes of Chance the Rapper, took a stance during the brand's finale.
The singer-songwriter removed his shirt to reveal messages such as 'Protest D&G' and 'I am not your scapegoat', while standing in the middle of the catwalk with his fist defiantly in the air.
Raury used Instagram to later express the reasons behind his protest:
"I never felt so alone, so terrified, yet so alive... Found myself in tears when I realized the people understood, and I'm not just screaming in the dark anymore ... if ur in this industry remember that there is a god, and god protects the good... so do the work when aligned to. following my heart from this day forth knowing that I am living truth... If it ever means my end so be it."
And this isn't the first time the brand has come under scrutiny. Miley Cyrus' brother Braison walked his debut show for the label earlier this week and the singer took to Instagram to congratulate her sibling. She did however add that she doesn't support the brand's political stance.
To which Stefano Gabbana replied: "We are Italian and we don't care about politics and mostly neither about the American one! We make dresses and if you think about doing politics with a post it's simply ignorant. We don't need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!!"
The brand has yet to respond following Raury's protest.
