Melania Trump’s First Lady Style

Melania Trump has difficult shoes to fill when it comes to the sartorial record left behind by former First Lady Michelle Obama. After all, as FLOTUS, Mobama was one of the best-dressed political figures in the world, and frequently championed homegrown design talent, from Thakoon to Jason Wu.

So, what does the new First Lady, a former model, have to offer in the fashion stakes? Well, quite a lot, actually - if her recent public appearances are anything to go by.

Here are the style signatures we've noticed so far...

White

There's no question over what Melania's favourite colour to wear is, with the former model clocking up 5 white looks during her husband's presidential campaign. From the Roksanda dress with exaggerated sleeves she wore for her infamous Republican National Convention speech (above centre) to the white Ralph Lauren jumpsuit she wore to election night (below), she's certainly consistent in her love of the hue.

Jumpsuits

Perhaps it's her former occupation as a model, but Melania isn't afraid of taking risks in the fashion department - frequently opting for jumpsuits for official engagements rather than dresses or suits. She's also proven she is stoically proud of her fashion choices - after receiving much criticism for wearing a Gucci pussy bow blouse after 'pussy-grabbing'-gate (top of page) she opted to wear another pussy bow style at the final debate - this time by Ralph Lauren.

Mega-Watt Eveningwear

So far we've only had a brief indication of what Melania's eveningwear might be like, but from what we've seen, it's going to be of the more-is-more persuasion. After all, she opted for a figure-hugging gold sequinned dress by Reem Acra for Trump's inauguration dinner. Is this a sign of things to come? Watch this space.
