It’s a brand best known for high-octane Sicilian style, but Dolce & Gabbana have just launched their first collection featuring abayas and hijabs in signature prints.

The Italian label revealed their new range of modest styles on Style.com Arabia, and co-founder Stefano Gabbana took to Instagram to share a preview with his followers.

Designed to appeal to Muslim women with a taste for high-end fashion, the collection comes in neutral tones like black and beige. The traditional hijabs and abayas (full length dresses worn by some Muslim women) are embellished with trademark Dolce & Gabbana motifs - red roses, daisies and lemons (as seen in the brand’s S/S ’16 collection) all make an appearance.

The design duo aren’t the first brand to tap into the modest market: big names such as DKNY, Oscar de la Renta and Tommy Hilfiger have all produced one-off Ramadan collections over past seasons, while Net-a-Porter now offers customers a ‘Ramadan edit', which is a selection of styles for the holy month. Last September, H&M made headlines when it unveiled hijab-wearing model Mariah Idrissi as the face of its autumn 'Close The Loop' campaign. And let's not forget the nation's sweetheart of 2015 - hijbab-wearing Nadiya Hussain, who won the Great British Bake Off - and our hearts.

Speaking to Fusion, the Mariah Idrissi shared her thoughts on diversity in the fashion industry, saying ‘It always feels like women who wear hijab are ignored when it comes to fashion. Our style, in a way, hasn’t really mattered, so it’s amazing that a brand that is big has recognized the way we wear hijab.’
