Colette, the much-loved Parisian store, will close its doors this December.
The brand took to Instagram yesterday to share the news: 'As all good things must come to an end, after twenty wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on December 20th of this year.'
Once described as 'the trendiest store in the world' by Forbes, since its opening in 1997, the Rue Saint-Honoré boutique has been a destination for fashion fans who flock to the shop for its cool and curated edit of fashion, streetwear, magazines, food and more. The original 'concept store', its ability to combine established brands with emerging designers, and the expensive with the affordable, has led to a cult following.
Started by Colette Rousseaux, who still lives above the shop, the buisness is now run by her daughter Sarah Andelman.
'Colette Rousseaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time, and Colette cannot exist without Colette,' the Instagram post explained.
Famous for its forward thinking collaborations - most recently with Balenciaga - the store will be going out with a bang by forging partneships with Sacai, Chanel and Saint Laurent before it finally shuts its doors.
And the building is likely to live on as a site of fashion pilgrimage with Saint Laurent predicted to takeover the prime retail space from January.
'We would be proud to have a brand with such history, with whom we have frequently collaborated, taking over our address,' Colette wrote.
