If you haven't already seen episode eight of And Just Like That..., you may want to look away now, lest I ruin a sartorial surprise of the highest order (well, sort of). For the latest instalment of HBO Max's Sex and the City reboot took us on a journey through time, one Halston dress at a time.

In a preview of this episode, we had already seen Carrie casually pull out $80,000 worth of Versace couture from her medium-sized wardrobe, reminding us all of the time she went to Paris with the Russian. As it turns out, this was just one of many archival delights for us to feast our eyes on, reminding us all of a time B.C.D, otherwise known as Before Che Diaz.

Some creations were put front and centre: there was Lily wearing the poncho which features in season 2, episode 4, when Carrie is late for a photoshoot, which leads to her not-so-flattering photograph plastered on the front of New York Magazine asking the question: Single and Fabulous?
Interestingly, the poncho also features in season 2 episode 14, alongside the dirndl-style dress Carrie wears to a picnic, which she is seen carrying in AJLT. But there were also little fashion Easter eggs dotted around her apartment, memories carefully strewn everywhere for those who wanted to notice them.

What does this tell us about Carrie? Her character has always understood the significance of clothes, how they become imbued with the very emotions we feel when we wear them. It also tells us that_Sex and the City_had a very thorough and meticulous costume department, which clearly archived everything within an inch of its life.

Then: In season 6 episode 19, Carrie falls asleep in her couture waiting for Alexandr Petrovsky.

Now: In And Just Like That episode 8, Carrie revisits this incredible gown.

Then: Single and Fabulous? The poncho in season 2...

Now: Lily in the poncho, which actually featured in several episodes of the second season of SATC.

Then: What else does one wear to a picnic in Central Park? Season 2 Carrie went all Heidi which, next to Miranda's, er, outdoorsy ensemble, makes for a punchy combo. God love Patricia Field.

Now: Slightly upset that Carrie didn't feel the need to try this on. Would have been nice to recreate Miranda's outfit from the same episode for a double whammy, no?

Then: We assumed, like the rest of us, that And Just Like That was really pretending that the second movie never happened. Apparently not, as Carrie's orange Halston dress made an appearance.

Now: Blink and you'll miss it but the dress was hanging in Carrie's wardrobe.

Then: Remember that time SJP wore several Halston dresses as Carrie when filming the second movie, only to then reveal that she was going to be working on the label's Heritage collection? Yeah, that.

Now: There it is! Top of the chair pile.
