Pop quiz! If you had to pick one item of clothing to sum up Carrie Bradshaw, would it be a) a pair of Manolo Blahnik Mary-Janes, b) a vintage fur coat or c) a Fendi Baguette? Trick question. As any aficionado knows, the answer is actually d) a powder pink tutu, the very same she wore in the opening credits of the series and resurrected in a game of 'take or toss' in the first film.
As well as giving star billing to the short pink style, Bradshaw stayed loyal to the tutu throughout the show. She wore a pouffy green skirt in Paris, the night she got slapped and was reunited with Mr Big, and also wore a flamenco-style number for a date with Aleksandr Petrovsky. Now, with filming happening as we speak for And Just Like That, the tutu is poised to take centre stage once more.
Sarah Jessica Parker has just appeared on set wearing white tutu, this time a long style that dialled up the drama to 10. It was styled with a pair of white ankle boots, last seen in series six of SATC, her favourite handbag (Fendi's Baguette) and is a more grown-up version of her original pink skirt. The 2021 way to do a tutu, therefore, is maxi style (for extra swoosh-factor) in a pale shade of white or eggshell. Needle & Thread's Florence Ruffle Ankle Skirt would look, to use a Carrie-ism, fabulous with a leotard and a double-breasted blazer. Ready, set, twirl!
