Paris Haute Couture is essentially a love letter to high-luxe fashion. A time to lose yourself in the fantasy of it all. And celebrate the most elaborate fairy tale creations, embellishments and months of intricate handiwork in the ateliers.
This season brought the goods - with ethereal and Disney-style looks big winners, with A-listers from Thandie Newton, Kirsten Dunst and Nicole Kidman spotted on the FROW. To mark the fashion spectacle in the City of Light, here’s our pick of the five dreamiest dresses from the SS17 couture shows…
Christian Dior
For her first couture collection Maria Grazia Churi created a woodland wonderland, within the garden of the Musee Rodin. Fans of Little Red Riding Hood will be all over this one.
Valentino
A masterclass in contemporary, red-carpet dressing. Pierpaolo Piccioli staged his first solo couture collection (previously he worked alongside now-Dior designer Maria Grazia Chiuri), showing a collection of sheer organza skirts, delicate draping and an array of colours from raspberry and pink to the fashion house’s signature scarlet. Although we’re very much in love with this pleated, fuchsia number.
Giambattista Valli
For those who have an aversion to wearing yellow, you may just be swayed after seeing this voluminous Beauty and the Beast-esque show-stopper. All this model needs now? A ballroom and Dan Stevens, and she’s good to go.
Elie Saab
Elie Saab took inspiration from Egypt, showing a collection of lust-worthy silk tulle creations fit for Cinderella in muted colours.
Chanel
Oh to be a Chanel bride! This season 17-year-old model of-the-moment Lily-Rose Depp had the honour of closing the show in one of the biggest blush-toned wedding gowns. Layers of tulle, pink and puffball sleeves. The eighties trend is finding its way onto the couture catwalk. Yes, really.
