The summer 2018 collection by Swimsuits For All is already set to be a success, not just because Ashley Graham is the face of the new line but also because it’s the most inclusive brand on the market. A line that caters to more than just the typical size 6-12 market, the campaign is also breaking boundaries in the way it promotes the collection.
Talking to In Style, Ashley Graham revealed that the campaign images are all untouched paparazzi pictures. The idea came during their original photoshoot for the new line, as paparazzi started to follow the models and it created something of a lightbulb moment.
‘When shooting this campaign in Miami, the paparazzi began following us and taking pictures,’ Graham said. Looking at their photos sparked an idea, “Why not use their photos as the campaign images?” These raw and unedited images would remind women that they are “flawless” in their own right and that they already have the perfect beach body!’
While the campaign images were unlikely to be retouched anyway, using paparazzi pictures will definitely make a statement about what the brand stands for, completely unfiltered beauty.
Paparazzi are known for taking pictures of celebrities on holiday that some would deem uncomplimentary, so turning that on its head and using the pictures to promote swimwear really is a stroke of genius when it comes to attacking society's beauty ideals as well as upholding authenticity.
'Of course, it's daunting knowing the paparazzi may have captured an unflattering photo,’ Graham continued, ‘But I remind myself that being authentic is beautiful, and I have nothing to hide when it comes to my body because I know it's changing people's lives.’
Her fresh attitude is something that not only makes a difference to the everyday woman who is constantly bombarded with swimwear images of the same body type and thereby told that is the ideal shape, but also to celebrities who so often hide from paparazzi on holiday to avoid those exact pictures.
