Last week, Angelina Jolie announced that she will be starring in the new Maria Callas biopic by director Pablo Larraín. But this wasn’t the only headline the actor would make this month. Yesterday, the former UN goodwill ambassador announced the launch of her own fashion label, Atelier Jolie, debuting in autumn this year.

She took to Instagram to make the announcement, revealing the motivation behind the eponymous label. “Atelier Jolie is a place for creative people to collaborate with a skilled and diverse family of expert tailors, pattern makers and artisans from around the world,” she captioned the photo.

“It stems from my appreciation and deep respect for the many tailors and makers I’ve worked with over the years, a desire to make use of the high-quality vintage material and deadstock fabric already available, and also to be part of a movement to cultivate more self-expression.”

Working with deadstock materials and tapping into “refugees and other talented, under-appreciated groups, with positions of dignity based on skill,” this new purpose-driven brand chimes with Jolie’s continued efforts to shine a light on socio-economic inequalities and to bring change to those affected.

Given her immaculately clean-line style history, we can expect the collection to be achingly chic. This fall, too, will see the return of the former Celine designer, Phoebe Philo, to the fashion circuit with her own sustainable label. Safe to say, this September will be a blockbuster of a fashion month.
