The second collection from Alexa Chung’s eponymous fashion line has just dropped, and we’re pleased to confirm that it’s just as covetable as her summer debut.

Titled Prom Gone Wrong, the collection is, according to Chung, inspired by ‘the moment of disaster. When something terrible happens and it happens in slow motion or you suddenly have heightened senses or awareness. It will comprise over 100 pieces, including ready-to-wear, shoes and jewellery.

Just as Chung’s own signature style is all about bringing together opposites, the collection explores what happens when exaggerated, feminine glamour is juxtaposed with something darker. ‘I was looking at debutante ball images and Tatler parties in the eighties – silks, taffetas and ballerina skirts. Pretty much your prettiest moment, so elegant and feminine, and then you’ve got crappy old socks on or an ambulance blanket wrapped around you,’ she explained.

Among the standout styles are a tracksuit bearing a colourful rainbow stripe, an over-sized knit with a graphic face pattern and a handful of ballerina-referencing party dresses. Chung’s staple fabrics like velvet, gingham and plaid make an appearance, too.

After a series of high profile (and highly sought after) collaborations with brands like Madewell, AG Jeans and high street stalwart Marks and Spencer, the model turned presenter turned designer’s long-awaited standalone fashion line arrived back in May.

To celebrate the launch of her debut collection, Chung held a wedding-themed catwalk show at the Danish Church of Saint Katherine in Regent’s Park, with guests such as Daisy Lowe, Henry Holland, Pixie Geldof and Natalie Massenet taking their seats along the church pews.

Prices for Alexa’s second collection start at £75 for a tee (bearing slogans like ‘Lonely Hearts Club’ and ‘Boy Crazy’) and range up to £780 for an over-sized trench coat. It’s available to buy from retailers such as Selfridges, Net-a-Porter and Mytheresa, as well as from the ALEXACHUNG.COM e-commerce site.
