The Met gala red carpet is a fertile ground for surprise celebrity reveals. From relationship hard launches, to break-ups and new hair-dos, there’s no faster way to announce news to the world than by doing it when all eyes are watching, in one fell swoop. And what was this year’s big news? Supermodel Adwoa Aboah’s pregnancy reveal tops the charts of joyful announcements.

The British model debuted her baby bump on last night’s green carpet, donning a ruffled crop-top, voluminous, bubble-hem skirt by H&M, rendered in cherry red, and minimal make-up bar a red lip. ‘I was infatuated with the idea of creating something timeless and perfectly timed,’ she tells Grazia. ‘This moment was for two people, not one, and so designing a piece around something that special takes a lot of careful consideration. I fell in love with the design of this. It’s a real moment of joy for me,’ she continues.

Aboah isn’t the first to announce her joyous offspring news to the world on the famed stairs of the Met, as Karlie Kloss and Serena Williams both revealed their baby bumps at last year’s event. ‘There are so many women who have worn such iconic looks whilst pregnant - all of them giving me confidence and inspiration,’ she says. ‘Rihanna, obviously, Sienna and Slick to name but a few. I also drew a lot of inspiration from Chanel couture, especially the spring/summer ‘99 show. Isaac Mizrahi and Lacroix bubble skirts were on my moodboard, too.'

No bones about it, the supermodel’s maternity wear journey is off to a grand start - watch this space.
