With summer being a capricious mistress at the moment to put it mildly, it's natural to experience a certain amount of performance anxiety every time the clouds part. Why? Because the phrase, 'here today, gone tomorrow', might as well have been tailor-made for this month's temperatures, which means the pressure is on to make the most of your hot-weather wardrobe. As soon as it's above 25 degrees, it's time to slip into flip-flops and leave your jacket at home with wanton abandon. Oh, and one more thing. Why not add a shell necklace while you're at it?

Naturally suited to our current season thanks to its holiday-adjacent personality, a shell necklace will make any outfit positively sing of summer, whether or not yours is a genuine souvenir or sourced from Depop.

Zara's Shell Necklace

In fact, according to searches on Google, Zara's shell necklace is already causing something of a commotion. Featuring a chunky gold chain and an elaborate shell pendant, it would look impossibly chic with a square-necked black swimsuit (or a white button-down if you're not by the sea). It's sadly sold out, having been reduced in the sale, but is available to shop on eBay.

If you don't want to pay over the odds for your shell necklace, however - Zara's was discounted to £5.99, but is going for roughly 10 times as much on resale sites - the high street has plenty of options that will get you in the mood for a rooftop cocktail, namely COS, Anthropologie and & Other Stories.

YSSO's gold shell pendant is handcrafted in Greece, inspired by Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, and strung on a piece of black cord, making it a chic version of the gift-shop necklaces you used to beg for on childhood beach holidays (just me?). Tory Burch's chunky shell choker, meanwhile, would edge a plain white tee and denim midi skirt towards something that ticks the 'height of summer' box.

With a mini heatwave due to hit tomorrow - and last approximately three days at the most but keep checking your weather apps - the time to wear a shell necklace is now.
