London Fashion Week is taking place in a city in flux. The shows roll on as the Brexit deadline looms and a no-deal outcome starts to look like a reality (a terrifying concept for the city's international fashion community ) and scores of school children took to the streets to protest climate change on an ironically warm day for mid-February.
But what of the clothes? This season guests explore a new definition of sexy in the form of floor-scraping prairie dresses and a girlish reprise in the face of an austerity Britain with pearl hairclips and puffed-up velvet headbands. We've seen a quiet sense of luxury through a proliferation of a beige, taupe and tobacco toned palette. With the weather warming up, perhaps this might be the first opportunity to break out the more esoteric spring summer 19 trends that rely on a warmer climate, like tie-dye and Jacquemus-esque summer dresses.
Arguably the most fascinating part of London Fashion Week and that with the most-far reaching impact doesn't happen behind the closed doors of shows, but out on the streets. As editors, stylists and influencers navigate the capital they do it in extraordinary style. Like a masterclass in putting together the trends, they experiment with the shapes, colours and textures they've seen on the runway out in real life. If art follows life, this is life following art. Here are the best looks we've seen at LFW so far...
