Best dressed? Most definitely.

The Oscars red carpet is typically quite demure, a time-honoured tradition that stretches back to Hollywood's Golden Age. But that doesn't mean the new guard of acting talent doesn't get to have fun, especially if you're Yasmin Finney, the actress who's recently starred in Netflix's Tao & Elle.

For her debut at the Oscars, Finney turned to a designer who understands the brief when it comes to something head-turning: Harris Reed. The London-based designer, whose show opened fashion week in style with a moving spoken performance by Florence Pugh, is famous for creating a 'fluid fantasy' with his demi-couture creations. Finney's gown was no exception - an elegant column gown with a spiked neckline that erupted with feathers that perfectly framed her face as she posed on the step and repeat.

To Reed, it was a pinch-me moment to be asked. 'I was so extraordinarily blown away and honoured,' he told Grazia, adding: 'She is such a powerhouse and such an incredible rising star.'

The Vanity Fair Oscar party featured similarly original takes on the long black dress. Zoë Kravitz's Saint Laurent dress negated the need for underwear, with a polka-dot cut-out over the derrière that made for a very cheeky show. Kylie Jenner, meanwhile, wore a lace corset gown by Ashi Studio, proving the negligee trend isn't going anywhere.

Tooing the line between avant-garde and appropriate for the most formal event on the awards season calendar, Finney just cemented her status as one-to-watch for red carpet style that's the opposite of a snooze.
