Meghan Markle’s fashion credentials are widely reported on (guilty as charged) and while her sister-in-law Kate Middleton has shown she can hold her own in this arena too, the Duchess’ style is often completely different. Except for last night.

The royal family came together on Wednesday evening to celebrate Prince Charles’ 70th birthday. The Prince and Duchess of Cornwall were joined by his sons, Prince Harry and William and their partners, Meghan and Kate, as well as Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank and Charles' siblings - Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Other guests included the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Naturally, his mother, the Queen made a speech at the lavish party. She gushed with sentiment and entertained with jokes, calling the King-to-be a true ‘Duchy Original’, and an ‘heir to the throne to stand comparison with any in history.’

For the occasion, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, wore her hair up with a pink dress (rumoured to be Jenny Packman) with a pair of drop-diamond earrings. Kate has worn these show-stopping earrings before to the 2018 BAFTA awards. Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, meanwhile usually prefers to wear her hair down and opts for either French couture labels or smaller independent brands with a modern West Coast vision to make her fashion statement. But, last night she took her lead from Kate and wore her hair in a chignon with a pair of citrine chandelier earrings.

Famously, Meghan prefers a more natural make-up look - at her wedding, she nixed contouring for a fresh face - while Kate likes heavy eye-liner and a lashing of highlighter. Once again, at Princes Charles' birthday party, Meghan used Kate as the model for her look, this time in terms of beauty. Still delicate with the use of bronzer and blusher, she opted for a dramatic smokey eye and a dappling of light-catching highlighter on the crest of her cheekbones.

While pictures are still scarce of the Duchess’ head-to-toe look you can be sure we’ll be refreshing Kensington Palace’s Instagram account until they are released.
