When asked to articulate the ‘90s aesthetic, many instantaneously draw their minds back to a teenage Kate Moss who demonstrated the sartorial art of seemingly effortless grunge-chic.

But before Moss coveted spaghetti-strap dresses with sporty Gazelles, there was Jennifer Aniston.

Renowned for her role as Rachel Green in cult comedy series Friends, the actress introduced us mere mortals to the art of lumberjack shirts knotted against slip dresses, the highly debated denim vest and of course, the ‘Rachel’.

And it seems we’re still desperate to perfect the formula behind ‘90s dressing despite now living in the year 2017. As we continue to excessively pin Winona Ryder film stills and regram '90s supermodels in honour of 'Friyay' - the more Rachel Green’s brown-on-brown wardrobe grows in relevance.

And it seems it’s not just us who have desperately sought to recreate Rachel Green’s wardrobe as Jennifer seemed to take style lessons from her character back in the ‘90s too.

To prove it, we’ve rounded up every time Jennifer took sartorial inspiration from Rachel Green IRL. And we’ll give you the lowdown on how to recreate the iconic aesthetic too (even if it’s 2017…):

The Mini Slip Dress

It’s undoubtedly the garment that defined the 1990’s - be it layered over a crisp white tee or donned with a co-ordinating miniature bag and strappy kitten heels.

And of course it made up 75 percent of Rachel Green’s wardrobe. So it was only a matter of time until the cult garment crept into Jennifer’s closet and made countless appearances on the red carpet.

Co-Ordinates

This season, the mismatching of rainbow hues and juxtaposition of luxe aesthetics with sportswear is bang on trend. Heavily co-ordinated get-ups are deemed too well thought out as we desperately seek to achieve ‘effortless chic’.

So yes, we will plan an entire outfit only to purposely swap heels for trainers and a tailored blazer for a hoodie last minute. You know, to make it look like we didn’t spend hours getting ready. But back in the ‘90s, it was considered cool to look put together.

And it’s a trend Jennifer coveted. We particularly heart the floral dress she donned for the Picture Perfect premiere in London. Teamed up with a co-ordinating miniature bag and tan shoes, the sartorial get-up is an honest reflection of ‘90s aesthetic.

'Mom' Jeans

You don’t need to be a honorary devotee to Friends re-runs to know that Rachel Green is partial to a bit (a lot) of denim. We can put bets on the fact that there isn’t a single episode where the actress isn’t wearing the ‘90s fabric. But rightly so, as nobody works the Canadian tux better than Rachel Green (or Jennifer Anniston for that matter).

Whether she tucks a slogan emblazoned tee into high-waisted mum jeans or teams them up with tinted sunnies and a lumberjack shirt, Jennifer nailed the look consistently. Without even being seemingly aware of it… How annoying.

Our favourite look? The roll neck tucked into high waisted jeans with a blazer combo. ‘90s genius.

The Crop Top

It wouldn’t be the nineties without low skimming jeans and the midriff baring pierced bellybuttons. And Jennifer often turned to the bandeau top as an interpretation of the trend.

The actress attended the Fifth Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on March 7, 1999, with co-star Courtney Cox. Jennifer donned an asymmetric cut bandeau crop top with a floor-skimming satin skirt. We're getting serious S Club vibes.

The Original 'Drouser'

It's a look we haven't donned since the noughties and admittedly it's one we hadn't anticipated would ever make a comeback. But how wrong we were. Just take a look at the newly re-invented 'drouser' for instance.

And Jennifer was one of the first to covet the trend which bred in the nineties. The actress opted for a floaty, asymmetric shirt dress and layered it over straight-cut trousers. If you wish to re-visit the trend this season, opt for a lengthy shirt-style top and pair with Vetements-inspired deconstructed jeans.

The Suit

Tailored co-ords made a comeback in recent years though it was first coveted in the early nineties. Often donned in muted hues, the oversized (a major indicator of the 1990's) suit was a favourite on the red carpet with A-listers such as Julia Roberts. Remember her iconic Oscars fashion moment? Oh, it's still in our books as a legendary get-up.

So take inspo from the nineties aesthetic this season and seek tailored co-ords, preferably in a peachy pink paired with the kitten heel.

The Leather Mac

Ever since we first laid eyes on Jennifer's '90s wardrobe, we've been on the hunt for a similar patence mac. The actress donned the trend both on and off screen. The tailored leather was coveted on Friends in a similar way IRL, as Jennifer paired the trench with knee-high boots, all-black garms and her trademark middle-parted tresses.
