Christopher Kane showed one of his most confident collectionsLondon Fashion Week today, but we found ourselves looking passed the models in satin ruffles and sneakers to catch a second (and third, and forth) glimpse at Alexa Chung’s outfit. Yes, really.
The models wore crystal encrusted shirts and lace skirts that had splits so high they veered on fetishistic, but it was Alexa in a pair of vinyl trousers that captured our imagination. The outfit was typical Chung - mary-jane heels, a sweater and a pair of kick flare trousers. However, we're not used to seeing this London designer clad in tip-to-toe black, making it a refreshing break from her trusty denim and tea dresses.
With the weather veering between spring and the hard edge of winter, Alexa had the right idea to style her outfit around a structured coat. With wide lapels, her satin jacket offset the high-shine of her vinyl trousers. The other season clincher? That sweater. Everyone has a plain black v-neck knocking around the back of their wardrobe, take it out, now. Use yours, like Alexa has, to offset the high-octane quality of satin and leather, use it as a cosy but conspicuous neutraliser for more esoteric fabrics.
Naturally, the ensemble paid reference to Alexa Chung's eponymous label’s latest AW19 collection where models wore mid-length jackets and butter soft trousers both tailored out of leather and teamed with a waist-cinching belt. The designer may not have been wearing her own line today, but that didn't stop her referencing next season. The result? Stylish and endlessly easy to recreate on the high street. Ta, Alexa!
