The A-list have swapped Venice for Toronto this week, attending the Canadian city's iconic film festival, with the glitzy occasion luring the best-dressed celebrities to celebrate their latest films.
What is the Toronto International Film Festival and when does it start?
Each year cinephiles from all over the globe unite in Toronto to celebrate legendary cinema. This year is the 41st annual TIFF, also commonly known as The People’s Festival, which is spanning 10 days from 8th – 18th September.
What films will be screened at TIFF?
TIFF commenced on Thursday premiering The Magnificent Seven, starring Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington, followed by screenings of other highly anticipated films including Oliver Stone’s Snowden, Sing starring Scarlett Johansson, Jackie starring Natalie Portman and La La Land starring Emma Stone. Check out our guide to the TIFF films you'll want to watch immediately.
What awards are up for grabs at TIFF?
TIFF traditionally does not offer awards for “Best Film” or “Best Actor” like typical film festivals. Instead, the sought after prize is the People’s Choice Award, and last year’s winner was the adored film Room starring Brie Larson - no surprises there. Other notable recipients of the award include 12 Years a Slave, Slumdog Millionaire, The King’s Speech and American Beauty.
This year’s winner of the 2016 Grolsch People’s Choice Award will be announced on Sunday 18th September.
What stars are attending TIFF?
Each year the red carpet is adorned with the best dressed A-listers radiating elegance and class, and this year is no exception. Already we have seen Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp team up as the prettiest duo on the red carpet for the premiere of their film, Planetarium. Other stars that have wowed us include Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon, Lupita Nyong’o and Gemma Arterton, to name just a few.
