We all waited with baited breath to see what the Duchess of Cambridge would wear to tonight's BAFTA Awards in London. She certainly did not disappoint, sweeping down the red carpet wearing a white, one-shoulder gown designed especially for her by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. She accessorised the knockout dress with some pretty impressive jewels, too. Her earrings were the South-Sea pearls worn by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Poignantly, they were worn by Diana on her last official engagement in 1997 – a performance of Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall, also the location for tonight's BAFTA Awards. She also wore a diamond bracelet, a loan from the Queen.
For her shoes, the Duchess chose a pair of £495 sparkly heels from Jimmy Choo, which are (remarkably) still in stock, should you fancy a pair for yourself. Kate finished her look with her signature smokey eye and a white clutch bag, making for one of the best looks of the entire night.
This year is only the third time the Duchess of Cambridge has accompanied her husband to the ceremony. Last year, all eyes were on her to see if she would adhere to the all-black dress code devised in support of the #MeToo movement. While members of the royal family are supposed to remain politically neutral, a heavily pregnant Kate did wear a dark green Jenny Packham gown that featured a black ribbon around the waist – perhaps her own way of showing solidarity.
Another winning McQueen moment came at 2017's BAFTAs, when Kate wowed in an off-shoulder, tiered floral gown, which was a slight variation on a design from the Resort 2016 collection.
While it wasn't strictly a BAFTAs dress, Kate did attend a BAFTA Gala in Los Angeles in 2011, where she wore a heavenly lilac gown created by Jenny Packham, another of her go-to designers for red carpet events.
She chose Jimmy Choo shoes then, too, opting for the glittery Vamp sandals that co-ordinated with the silver band on the dress that accentuated her waist. Renowned for recycling her clothes for other formal events, we can't wait to see if 2019's McQueen showstopper will have another outing.
