Yesterday Kate Middleton headed to the Lewisham headquarters of charity Family Action to help launch its new FamilyLine hotline service. The new service, designed to provide support to parents in need, made the Duchess of Cambridge reflect on her own personal experience as a mother.
While, of course, the Duchess’ situation is rather unique, and the majority of mothers aren’t lucky enough to have live-in-nanny and housekeeper to help raise their children, this doesn’t mean the royal is exempt from feelings of isolation.
Middleton, who gave birth to her third child last April, spoke about the struggle many mothers face after the initial newborn stage.
“It’s so hard. You get a lot of support with the baby as a mother particularly in the early days, but after the age of one it falls away,” she said. “After that there isn’t a huge amount — lots of books to read.”
“Everybody experiences the same struggle,” she added.

This isn’t the first time the Duchess has spoken about the struggles of motherhood and addressed the issue in a 2017 speech.
“Even for me, who has more support at home that most mothers do not. Nothing can really prepare you for the sheer, overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother,” Kate said. "For many mothers, myself included, this can at times lead to a lack of confidence and feelings of ignorance," she added.
