After sparking speculation at the Golden Globes, it's confirmed: Zendaya and Tom Holland are officially engaged.
Rumours started swirling of an engagement between Zendaya and the British actor when she sported a diamond ring on her left finger at this year's ceremony.
‘Is that an engagement ring?’ one fan said, with another commenting, ‘The ring.’
And, according to both People and TMZ, the rumours are true. Sources close to the couple told TMZ that Tom proposed to Zendaya between Christmas and New Year's at her family homes in the United States. It was reported that no family was around them as it was just the two of them when he asked Zendaya to marry him in a proposal that was 'romantic and not over the top.'
Zendaya, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a motion picture Musical or Comedy, walked the red carpet in a custom burnt orange satin dress by Louis Vuitton and matching heels with a stunning Bulgari diamond and Paraiba tourmaline choker, but it was the five-carat cushion-cut diamond set on a thin gold band by British jeweller Jessica McCormack which stole the spotlight.
Zendaya has been dating her Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland, also 28, since 2021 although they were romantically linked from 2017, after meeting on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming the year before. However, the stars – who have appeared in three Spidey films and are set to be in Christopher Nolan’s new film – prefer to keep their relationship low-key.
Tom recently explained why they don’t walk red carpets together. They were last seen at the LA premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. ‘Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us,’ he said.
While they prefer to keep their relationship to themselves, Zendaya recently opened up about working with Tom, saying that ‘it’s actually strangely comfortable’. ‘It’s like second nature, if anything. You feel extra safe with the person you’re acting beside,’ she revealed.
‘I love working with him. He’s so talented, and so passionate about what he does. He always gives things one thousand percent, even if he’s absolutely worn down. I really appreciate that about him. It feels pretty normal. That’s how we met. Literally, at a chemistry read.’
Tom - who said he's 'happy and in love' - has also spoken about their screen collaborations, calling them ‘perfect’. ‘Studios love it. One hotel room. Separate drivers. We’re not crazy now. Listen it’s work, alright? It’s a saving grace. Yeah, best thing that’s ever happened to me,’ he said.
‘It’s just that perfect thing when you’re on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don’t agree with, or I know that she doesn’t particularly like, and it’s just that, like, familiar glance at each other of like, can’t wait to talk about that later.’
