Tate McRae took to the stage at 2024's BRIT awards to perform her hit single 'Greedy' - and while fans couldn't quite believe just how far the 20-year-old pop star has come, her performance certainly had everyone talking.

Tate, who first rose to fame on social media, wowed the crowds with a very high-energy performance. Looking back on her impressive career, one fan tweeted 'Seeing Tate go from her YouTube videos to the Brits is so surreal.' Another added, 'Tate McRae... That's the tweet!'

But while plenty were full of praise, not all viewers were as impressed - with some accusing the singer of not really, well, singing.

On viewer tweeted, 'Tate contributed about 10 seconds of vocals to that performance,' as another branded the performance '3% singing, 97% dance.' Others questioned where her mic may have been switched off, with her vocals taking a backseat to the choreography unfolding.

Until we can perform a full on routine and belt out a song, there's no comment from us.

From social media to performing at the BRITs, there's little denying the star is a force to be reckoned with. Who exactly is triple threat Tate McRae? Here's everything to know about the YouTuber-turned-popstar.

Who is Tate McRae?

Tate McRae is a 20-year-old popstar, best known for her hit singles 'Greedy' and 'You Broke Me First.'

Performing is a skill, and it's one that dancer/singer/songwriter/all round talent Tate McRae mastered young. Originally trained as a dancer, Tate started training when she was just six years old. As a 12-year-old, she won third place on the 2016 season of So You Think You Can Dance, performing with her fellow Canadian Justin Bieber.

While she started off as a dancer, the star has actually been sharing her music for as long as fans can remember. Before her music career popped off, Tate was gracing the screens of YouTube, featuring her dancing and original songs on the series 'Create With Tate.' Today, she still has over four million subscribers on her channel.

Opening up to the LA Times, Tate said, 'My fans have seen me writing songs in my bedroom since I was 13. I don't think I realised then how much I was in the public eye. Your perspectives and tastes change so much.'

Where is Tate from?

McRae hails from Calgary, a town best known as being Canada's answer to Texas. More known for its Stampede rodeos, pursuing a career in the arts left Tate feeling an outsider.

'In our town, I think it was a little frowned upon,' she said, 'and we got a lot of strange looks when I first started travelling for dance and putting myself out there.'

The star made the move to LA when she was 17 - with her already solid TV and dance fame helping her to blow up on TikTok.

How old is she?

From her onstage presence, it's hard to believe Tate is only 20 years old.

Born on 1 July, 2003, to mum Tanja, a ballet instructor, and dad Todd, Tate has an older brother named Tucker.

For our zodiac fans, you won't be surprised to know she's a loyal and intuitive Cancer.

Tate's music career

After moving to LA and harnessing the power of TikTok, Tate signed to record label RCA. Her major music breakthrough came from the release of her single 'You Broke Me First,' which featured in over one million videos on TikTok.

Her debut LP, I Used To Think I Could Fly, landed on the top 20 - but Tate's been open about finding her success a challenge. 'People are very critical of young women, they get attacked as soon as they share their passions,' she told the LA Times.

'When I first started going into writing sessions, I remember people doubting me a lot, because they're like, "What does this 16-year-old know?" I would look at myself and be like, "Well, what do I know?" There's like six 30-year-old men around me and I have no idea if I'm doing the right thing.'

In 2021, Tate landed a spot on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list, making her the youngest member of that year's Music Class.

Last year, Tate released her album Think Later, with single 'Greedy' becoming an instant hit.

Is Tate an actor?

Think you recognise Tate's voice? You might be right! Aside from hitting the charts with her singles, Tate actually voiced the character of Spot Splatter Splash in children's series Lalaloopsy from 2013-2015. A true talent!

Is Tate touring?

Fans, you're in luck. Tate is indeed taking her Think Later tour to the UK, touring the UK and Ireland in April. Tickets are already on sale, so you'll have to snap them up quick.
