Taylor Swift had another record-breaking evening at the MTV Video Music Awards this year, scooping seven gongs to make her the most decorated solo artist in VMAs history.
While the majority of the hype may be centred on the 2024 awards, you can still rely on the internet to dig out the archives, and Missy Elliott's show-stopping performance at the 2019 VMAs seems to resurface every year without fail. Missy's legendary Video Vanguard medley was a crowd-pleaser to say the least, especially among the Hollywood elite including Taylor Swift, Halsey, and Gigi and Bella Hadid, who were famously captured singing and dancing along to all of Missy's hits.
The performer, 53, had the stars losing all inhibitions as they sang along to her songs including The Rain, Work It, Get Ur Freak On and Lose Control.
'Gigi and Bella Hadid knew all the lyrics! They love Missy, you can see it in their faces,' commented one fan.
Another reflected on Missy Elliott's musical impact, writing, 'It just goes to show how much her
music and high energy performances are respected and appreciated. I love it.'
Joining Taylor, Gigi, Bella and Halsey in their Missy Elliott appreciation were Lizzo and Bebe Rexha. At the 2019 VMAs, Missy was awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which Lizzo honoured on the red carpet. She said, '[Missy]'s so gracious and now is her time. I'm just so honoured to know her and have a song with her, and be at the VMAs as she gets this award.'
At the time, it seemed that VMAs fans predicted the future, as one wrote, 'Can't wait for all the memes - did y'all see Taylor Swift dancing with her tongue out on Missy Elliott's performance?'

While videos of Missy Elliott's entire performance are few and far between, we have collected some snippets of the stars dancing to her medley in 2019 for you to watch at your leisure. One fan speculated in jest why the footage is no longer available in full, 'They had to take down the original performance because it was like the best ever and every other performance looked like s**t next to it,' they wrote.
