In the midst of all the new recouplings and drama, thankfully, a new Love Island romance has blossomed. No, we’re not talking about the new (probably ill-fated) Arabella and Danny - but rather Curtis and Tommy, and their loved-up relationship. Or, to put it in millennial terms, they have an undeniable bromance; something which was sealed in last night’s episode with a kiss.
What made their exchange even sweeter is that Molly-Mae - Tommy’s partner in the villa - was worried that Tommy and Curtis were heading to the terrace to discuss them ‘doing bits’, something which she’d ‘denied, denied, denied.’ But, even though Tommy wouldn’t tell Molly why he wanted to speak to Curtis - it turns out she had no reason to worry, as sex wasn’t brought up once in the conversation.
‘Curtis, I cannot tell you how happy I am to see you blossom with Amy,’ Tommy proclaimed, starting a love fest where the lads earnestly told each other how happy they were - not for themselves, but for each other, because it appears they’re both in genuine relationships. Before a friendly kiss, they also told each other that they felt they could tell each other about anything. As Tommy said, ‘We’ve both come in here to find love - but I’ve found a brother for life.’
Yes, their undying admiration for each other is reminiscent of Chris and Kem’s bromance two seasons ago - and there’s a chance the exchange was engineered by producers. (Sometimes, you do wonder if there is a script - and Tommy tripping up on the word ‘happy’ seemed a little suspect.) But, still, it’s always a positive to see men openly discussing their feelings on TV. And their friendship seems more real than a lot of the couplings in the villa; eg.Tom literally told Jordan that he found Maura ‘cringe’ last night.
Just like the unstoppable trio of Yewande, Anna and Amber (who we are sure will continue to be fierce friends on the outside), Tommy and Curtis have an amazing friendship - and we can’t wait to watch it develop.
