With the Finding Freedom biography of Harry and Meghan out tomorrow, heat is rising (along with the mercury) as details emerge ahead of publication. Plenty’s been circulated already, but the latest titbit adds to a growing picture of the inhospitable atmosphere Meghan faced on entering the royal family.
Following revelations that Prince William’s reservations about Meghan caused a rift between the brothers, the Sunday Telegraph reports that Tom Inskip expressed similar concerns and advised his old school friend Harry to try living with Meghan before ‘doing anything more serious’.
Harry and Tom went to Eton together, and the pair had been close for years after leaving the school. However, a source told the Finding Freedom authors that the relationship took a turn when Inskip advised pulling the brakes on Harry’s budding romance – a move that Tom and his wife Lara were reportedly ‘punished’ for, by being excluded from the Sussex’s wedding do at Frogmore House.
Although the source framed Inskip’s advice as coming ‘from a good place’, Harry evidently ‘didn’t totally see it that way’ at the time. While the Finding Freedom reports appear to confirm speculation swirling last year, Harry and Tom are since believed to have reconciled. After all, it would be shame to throw away decades of friendship – especially one which has spanned highlights like Harry’s role as usher at Tom’s wedding in 2017, and their infamous Las Vegas jaunt (you know the one; showgirls, naked billiards) in 2012.
While Harry and Meghan haven’t directly contributed to Finding Freedom, the book is written by royal reportersCarolyn Durand and Omid Scobie with the co-operation of the couple’s closest circle. The biography is understood to paint Harry and Meghan in a positive light, and 'set the record straight' on what has undoubtedly been a fraught exit from the royal family.
Back in May, a friend of Meghan’s said that 'If Meghan had it her way, the book would be released tomorrow instead of three months from now. She said the book will finally set the record straight and show the world why they were left with no other choice than to leave the royal life.' I mean, if we can’t wait (and we can’t) imagine how the Duchess is feeling?
