Royals fans rejoice: we finally have our first look at season 4 of Netflix’s The Crown. The new trailer, released yesterday, shows us everything from our first glimpse at Emma Corrin as Princess Diana to our first glimpse at Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher. To say we’re excited would be an understatement.
And while we’ve been fans of the show since its beginning, it always has us thinking, how historically accurate is this? Well, to get to the bottom of it we’ve looked at the biggest moments of the new trailer for The Crown season 4 and compared them to real-life events of the royal family. For starters, let’s see what this season will focus on. According to Netflix: ‘As the 1970s are drawing to a close, Queen Elizabeth and her family find themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), who is still unmarried at 30.’ Cue Emma Corrin.
Then, ‘as the nation begins to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain's first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), tensions arise between her and the Queen which only grow worse as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth.’ This is where Gillian Anderson comes in.
So, without further ado, here’s your look at how The Crown Season 4 compares to real life…

Diana's Wedding Dress
The most exciting part of the new trailer (to us, at least) is that not only do we finally we get to see Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, we also get to see Diana's stunning wedding dress. From the puff sleeves to the never-ending train, this is spot on.
The Queen At Trooping the Colour
A central theme to this season is the tension in the monarchy and here we see a very straight-faced Queen Elizabeth riding sidesaddle at the Trooping the Colour in 1979.
Diana and Charles Tour Australia
As the new season is covering the late 1970s and early 1980s, it makes sense that we would see newlyweds Charles and Diana on their tour of Australia in 1983. We can't wait to see more of Emma's Diana wardrobe if this pink dress and hat are anything to go by.
Margaret Thatcher Is In Office
According to Netflix, this season will see 'the nation begin to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain's first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher...which only grow worse as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War.' Here, Margaret Thatcher leaves Downing Street to update the country on the war.
