As Mother's Day approaches this weekend, we got to thinking about style and mothers. Anyone who's had children knows it's not easy to be a mother and also look immaculate 24/7. In fact, most mothers would say – in the early years at least – washing ones hair is the stuff of MEGA effort.
We know a lot of star mums have help – you know, nannies, stylists, blowdriers on speeddial – but their dedication to style should be applauded nonetheless. Because most of them have other jobs too. And let's face it, woulnd't sweats just be easier to wear...?
Here, we pay homage to our favourite A-list stars who top the best dressed lists even when in mum mode.
Victoria Beckham
Is there a mother on earth who can carry a toddler in platforms better than VB? Whether she's dropping the kids off at school, sitting in the stands at the footie or going on a hike, VB is the pinnacle of style.
Whilst today, she favours oversized knits, flairs and – shock horror! – FLATS, we still loved her back in the day, where skinny jeans and sky high Louboutins reigned supreme.
** Kate Moss **
We struggle to find things to say about Kate Moss's style... it's so on trend it's the only trend worth following.
We don't care that her daughter Lila Grace said last year she's just like every mum – 'embarrasing and annoying' [sic], – to us, she is s t y l e personified.
Yasmin Le Bon
Often seen on the FROWS of fashion month, Yasmin Le Bon is as far from 'embarrassing mum' as it gets – or at least daughter Amber seems to think so. The pair are often snapped together – both on and off the runway.
What we love about model Yasmin's style is you'd think she'd opt for more classical combos – you know, leave her 26-year-old daughter to the more edgier ensembles – but no! Far from it.
Yasmin is just as much a fan of a pattern clash, of over-sizing, of bold and brazen colours. And too darn right to that too!
Gisele Bundchen
We all saw this...
... so we all know what a multi-tasker Gisele is (and also how she has a little bit of help getting ready every now and again).
However, even when she's not being beautified by team of skilled professionals, she aces it in the style stakes. Take trampolining with the kids, for example...
Gisele's look is all about dressing down when she's off duty – loose-fitted jeans, casual vests and converse. But she's not a supermodel for nothing... and yes, even when she'd rocking the 'this old thing?' look, she still looks super.
Cindy Crawford
She's one of the 'original' supermodels, so of course you'd expect her to know a thing or two about fashion. But even though she recently announced she's given modelling the boot – making way, perhaps, for her daughter Kaia who has recently signed to IMG models – Cindy Crawford remains a firm favourite in our style file.
Cindy's rules include: never shying away from the knee-high boot, belts as lifelong friends, and when in doubt, do denim.
Kate Winslet
What we love about Kate Winslet is that her style, like her character, is no nonsense.
When it comes to the red carpet – the Oscars, etc – no one works a killer figure-hugging gown better than our Kate. But when she's off duty, out and about, it's oversized 'Mum' bags, fitted jeans, some sort of practical flat – oh, and hair scrapped back in a pony tail, like all true mummas do. #MumGoals if ever we saw them.
