Selena Gomez is one of the most-followed celebrities on Instagram - with over 114 millions fans and growing. But the 24-year-old, like anyone, is not immune to nasty remarks in the comments section.

And now the singer - who has been open about her battle with depression and anxiety - has revealed that internet 'trolls' actually drive her to removing the photo sharing app once a week.

Explaining her social media cleanse, Selena told The New York Times:

‘I delete the app from my phone at least once a week,’ she revealed. ‘You can’t avoid it sometimes [reading hurtful remarks].

‘You fixate on the [negative] ones,’ Gomez continued. ‘They’re not like, “You’re ugly.” It’s like they want to cut to your soul. Imagine all the insecurities that you already feel about yourself and having someone write a paragraph pointing out every little thing — even if it’s just physical.’

While the HRH of Instagram isn’t planning on taking herself off the ‘gram altogether (FYI: her posts on are worth, on average, $550,000 per image) she does miss her Disney days.

‘When I was on Wizards of Waverly Place, we didn’t have social media really,’ Selena says. ‘Twitter had just begun. Every Friday, I’d get to do a live taping in front of all these little kids and make their life. That’s when I was the happiest. Then, as I got older, I watched it go from zero to a hundred.’
