It’s still a major point of contention for fans of Sex and the City: should Carrie Bradshaw have ended up with Mr. Big, or would she have been better off sticking with her other on-off love interest, Aidan? We couldn’t help but wonder…
The Sex and the City spin-off movie saw Manhattan’s best paid dating columnist eventually tying the knot with Big, and according to SATC author Candace Bushnell, Chris Noth’s elusive character was always going to end up with our heroine as he had one major advantage: Bushnell’s mother ‘hated’ Aidan Shaw, as played by John Corbett, and much preferred Big.
‘My mother always hated Aidan, for some reason, so I could never really be team Aidan,’ she told Us Weekly at an event in New York. Whenever I would go home and visit my parents, my mother would say, “Why is Carrie with Aidan and not Mr. Big? You’ve got to get rid of Aidan.”
‘My mother never felt that Aidan was the right person for Carrie. So I felt obligated to take her side,’ she added. Even best-selling authors, it seems, depend on their parents for a little creative advice every now and again…
When quizzed by Us as to what the on-screen couple would be up to now (almost a decade after their SATC Movie nuptials), the author was positive that they’d still be very much in love, answering that ‘hopefully [Carrie and Big] are still happily married!’
As for the long-discussed – but still unconfirmed – prospect of a hypothetical third movie, Candace’s outlook was gloomier. When asked about the chances of SATC 3 coming to life on the big screen, she said: ‘I always wish that it would. I don’t know if it will ever happen, probably not.’
For SATC star Sarah Jessica Parker, though, the topic is less black and white. Speaking at New York Fashion Week back in February, the actress revealed that ‘It’s never been a “no…” it’s always been an “if” and a “when.”’
