Following a whirlwind of rumours that the couple had parted ways, Sam Thompson has finally opened up about his relationship with Zara McDermott. Reports surfaced last month alleging that the Made In Chelsea star, 32, had called time on his five year relationship with Love Island alum Zara, 28. Now, Sam appears to have broken his silence on his split – admitting he was left feeling ‘on edge’ over the Christmas period.
Talking on his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks, Sam admitted to ‘going through some stuff.' When asked by the Strictly star what had been going on, Sam replied, ‘It was tough. It’s been a tough month. A real tough month.’
Pete confessed that he hadn’t spoken to his best pal properly in a while, having ‘gone off the radar’ for a couple of weeks following his Strictly stint. He explained to Sam, ‘I did feel bad, I went off-radar and I didn’t realise you were effectively on the edge over Christmas. My favourite part was when I asked Sam how was your Christmas, and he said, “It was like being in a Christmas tomb. I’ve been sat in my house surrounded by Christmas stuff and I don’t feel Christmassy.’
Hours before their podcast dropped on Monday, Zara appeared to confirm that she had moved out of her and Sam’s West London home. Sharing a TikTok of her busy day, Zara gave fans a glimpse into her new house – with the bedroom and bathroom looking far different from her and Sam’s usual abode.
Adding fuel to the fire was Sam's elder sister Louise Thompson, who appeared to tacitly respond to the news earlier this month by hinting that she would remain friends with Zara amid the split.
Rumours of their separation began to surface last month, with a source insisting to MailOnline that Sam and Zara's break-up wasn’t down to a ‘scandal or fallout,' but simply 'the result of a difficult year, where they both had to spend a lot of time focused on their own projects.’
Celebrity breakups are never an easy feat - especially not when they're a couple that have invited fans into their relationship as much as these two.
Sam and Zara first met back in 2019, when the former Love Islander slid into Sam’s DMs. The pair's quickly amassed a loyal fan base, viral videos galore, and one cheating scandal over their years together. The couple were last seen together back in December for Zara’s birthday, with Sam dubbing her his ‘soulmate’ and ‘best friend.’
However, by New Year, things had reportedly ended. The couple spent New Year’s Eve separately, with Sam celebrating at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens with his former Made In Chelsea co-stars – including Reza Amiri-Garroussi and Josh Patterson. Meanwhile, reports alleged that Zara spent her New Year’s at home with the couple's two cats, Albus and Cedric.
