The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have introduced their third child, a baby boy, to the world as they posed for photos on the steps of the Lindo Wing after leaving St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
With her baby son wrapped up in a white blanket from GH Hurt & Son, in keeping with a royal tradition that dates back 70 years, the Duchess left the hospital wearing a red dress. Perhaps this was a nod to Princess Diana's red ensemble, worn when the late Princess of Wales left hospital with her own second son, Prince Harry.
Earlier this afternoon, Prince William accompanied his two older children Prince George (who came straight from school) and Princess Charlotte to the hospital, where they met their new brother for the first time.
The Duchess was admitted to the Lindo Wing earlier this morning, and gave birth to her second son at around 11am, a tweet from Kensington Palace confirmed. ‘Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs,’ the statement read. ‘The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.’

‘The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,’ it continued.
The Duke and Duchess have since issued a statement of thanks to the staff at St Mary's 'for the care and treatment they have received,' and thanked 'everyone for their warm wishes.'
It’s thought that we’ll have to wait a day or two before the third Cambridge baby’s name is officially revealed: after the birth of Prince George in 2013 and Princess Charlotte in 2015, it took two days before this information was shared with the public.
