Not Even Rihanna Can Bring Back Thin Eyebrows

Nothing instills fear in the heart of many like the headline ‘thin eyebrows are back on trend’. ‘NEVER’, we scream, simultaneously applying more and more brow gel in protest. We all remember the eyebrow disaster that was the late-nineties-early-noughties. Mostly because our eyebrow threaders/waxers/microbladers won’t let us forget, every session giving us the ‘over-plucked these did you?’ judgemental look.

Of course, no one loves to go against the fashion and beauty grain and forge her own pathmore than Rihanna. She proved that yesterday when her cover of British Vogue came out, gracing the September issue in all of her unbelievable glory. One thing stood out, not her amazing dewy glow, not her bold ombre lip, but her SUPER thin, unnaturally penned-on eyebrows.

Most of the time, we’re clapping, screaming even, in support of Rihanna’s trailblazing trends. This time, we are categorically, unceremoniously, not. We are logging out of Instagram and starting Scroll Free September a month early. Because, we’re sorry to say, but not even Rihanna can bring back super thin eyebrows.

Obviously, this is an artistic choice for the cover and therefore not a long-term look. It’s extremely unlikely that Rihanna has actually gone all 13-year-old girl on us and plucked all her eyebrows off. Most probably, her natural eyebrows were glued down for the shoot, powdered and covered in foundation to create this look. So, rest assured her real eyebrows are likely still fully intact- although we’ll be keeping an eye on her social media before to make sure (this is serious business you know).

So, while we look over this cover with wide eyes, we can find peace in the fact that even Rihanna isn’t fully committing to the thin brow. Because she, like the rest of us, will remember the trauma of the penciled-on eyebrow of our teen years.
