Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden have welcomed their second child, a baby boy.
The Swedish Royal Court confirmed the happy news in an Instagram post, revealing that ‘On Thursday 31 August at 11.24am, Princess Sofia welcomed a healthy and prosperous child at Danderyd Hospital. Both mother and child are doing well.’ The newborn’s name is yet to be revealed, but the prince described his new son as ‘a very cute boy’ in a brief statement to reporters.
The couple, who married in 2015, are already parents to the one-year-old Prince Alexander.

The couple’s relationship was initially a source of minor controversy, thanks to Sofia, who also takes the title Duchess of Varmland, having previously worked as a glamour model and appeared on Swedish reality TV.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Swedish royals are expecting a further addition to the family, with Carl Philip’s sister Princess Madeleine confirming her third pregnancy in a Facebook post.
The Princess, who is married to financier Christopher O’Neill, wrote ‘Chris and I are thrilled that I am expecting. We look forward to four becoming five!’ The couple, who married in June 2013, are already parents to Princess Leonore, three, and Prince Nicolas, two.
In an interview with Royal Central, Madeleine’s mother Queen Silvia revealed that the family is ‘extremely happy. But we would have liked to wait a little longer to tell […] It’s a bit early yet.’ The Princess is expected to give birth in March 2018.
Madeleine and Chris, who opted out of a royal title in order to continue his work in the finance industry, are based in London, but make regular trips to Sweden, where Princess Leonore has recently started at nursery school.
‘The family are still living in London, but because they also regularly stay in Sweden it is good that Princess Leonore gets this experience. It is also very important to Madeleine that the children get a strong connection to Sweden and the Swedish language,’ a royal spokesperson told Sweden’s Aftonbladet newspaper.
