Ah the royals. They are just like us, aren't they? As we reported last week, Prince Consort Henrik of Denmark, in what might be one of the pettiest acts in history, is refusing to be buried next to his wife of 50 years Queen Margrethe of Denmark because she never made him into the king.

Much like the storyline we saw playing out in the first season of The Crown, in which our very own Prince Phillip showed himself to be pretty peeved that he was always going to be second fiddle to his wife Queen Elizabeth (although that was more to do with his children not taking his surname), his Danish counterpart has been miffed about being 'unequal' to his wife for the best part of half a century.

So, instead of being buried in the special sarcophagus-for-two at the Roskilde Cathedral, his final resting place will be elsewhere. It's worth noting here that the Prince is still married to the Queen.

After the initial news caused the international press to mercilessly mock him, the Prince has again addressed the issue - refusing to back down on his bitterness.

Speaking to Se og Hør, a Danish magazine, he said: 'If she wants to bury me with her, she must make me a king consort. Finished. I do not care. My wife has decided that she would like to be Queen, and I’m very pleased with that. But as a person, she must know that if a man and a woman are married, then they are equal. . . . My wife hasn’t shown me the respect an ordinary wife should show her spouse.

'She’s the one playing me for a fool,' he continued. 'It’s my wife and not me that can do anything about this matter. If she wants me buried with her, she has to make me King Consort.'

Interestingly, on the flip side, any princesses married to the king do automatically become the Queen, so he sort of has a point. Looks like this is an argument Henrik is willing to literally take to the grave with him.
