Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank haven’t even been married a year - but that hasn’t stopped speculation that the pair have a baby on the way.
However, hopefully the baby watch will be temporarily quelled, as mum Sarah Ferguson has stepped in, telling journalists that her daughter is not pregnant. Even though - shock horror - Eugenie has been married since October last year.
Chatting at a party in Massachusetts over the weekend, Fergie decided to address the rumours.
‘What else can I tell you? No, she’s not pregnant,’ it's reported she told the crowd. ‘I’m just going through what the journalists say and they’re all here, so I just thought I’d fill it in.’
(She also spoke about Jack being the brand manager for the tequila company started by by George Clooney and Rande Gerber, saying, ‘Jack sells tequila for Casamigos, which we love,' the royal joked. 'It makes me even more of a yummy mummy because I just drink the tequila when I go and sell it.’)
PEOPLE, who reported the story, added that it’s only a matter of time before the pair decide to ‘start a family’ as soon as they can - or that's according to royal biographer Ingrid Seaward, anyway.
Royal or not, no woman should feel obliged to ‘start a family’ as soon as they tie the knot - and, as a colleague once pointed out the other day, a happily married couple are a family all of their own. Children or not.
Having a child is not a given, and, obviously, some women don't want a child, or are unable to give birth - having a baby shouldn’t be a requirement of the first year of marriage. Or the second, or the third, or insert year here.
The question isn’t ‘when’ the couple decide to add to their family, it’s ‘if’.
