Rumours of a third installment of one of our favourite noughties movies have been flying around for the past year, but in March it seemed our dreams of returning to Genovia might actually come true when Garry Marshall, the director of the first two films, [confirmed both him and Hathaway were behind the project](http://

But when Marshall unexpectedly passed away in July, all plans went on hold. However, now Hector Elizondo (that’s Joe, Mia’s bodyguard to you and me) has given us some hope.
'It’s not official, but certainly, everybody wants it done,' Elizondo told Variety Latino.
Elizondo - who was best friends with Marshall and appeared in all 18 of his movies - told the magazine that the project could go ahead without the beloved director.
‘It’s been discussed. Gary talked to me— may he rest in peace— about his involvement in it. I know Annie would like to do it. I know Julie would like to do it. I would like to do it. So we’re on board, it’s a question of when and a question of getting a good story. I’m ready! It’s time to go back to Genovia!’
Making the third film without Marshall will always be difficult but Elizondo has some of his own ideas about who would take over the franchise.
‘I’d love it to be a woman [direct]. We don’t have enough of them. That would be nice,’ Elizondo told the magazine. We couldn't agree more.
Keep everything crossed.
